Steps to Apply

Degree Seeking Students

Application

Submit an application online at CSUApply. When completing the application, please use your last/family name, first name and date of birth as stated on your passport. You must also include a valid e-mail address for future communication from CSUSB International Admissions. Please note: There is a non-refundable, non-transferable $70 (U.S. dollars) application fee.

Please keep in mind that students seeking a second Bachelor’s degree must fill out an undergraduate international application.

Supporting Documents

  1. Academic records, certificates and diplomas must be an original or photocopy document stamped/signed by a school official, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education or government authority. Please note that opened transcripts are not considered official. Applicants who have studied in the U.S. are required to have the institution(s) directly send their official transcript(s) to International Admissions.

    • Translation of document(s): All original supporting documents not in English must be accompanied by an official translation in the same format and stamped by a qualified translator. Translations by students are not acceptable.

    • Falsified document(s): You will be denied admissions or expelled if you send falsified academic records, bank statements, or any other supporting documents.

    • Failure to list all schools attended: If you do not list all schools attended on your application, you will be denied admission or refused transfer credit.

  2. English Language Proficiency Requirement
    Demonstration of the English language is required for all applicants who do not have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution. U.S. citizens/residents whose education is from outside the U.S. must demonstrate their English language proficiency. Below is a list of English proficiency exams we accept.

Please Note: IELTS requirement for MBA, MPA, and MSA is a 6.5 Total Band Score. MA Communication Studies, English, English Composition, and Communication Studies Integrated Marketing Concentration require a 575 PBE or 90 iBT.

Duolingo requirement for MBA is 110. Please note that some graduate programs require a minimum score of 110.

English exams must be valid within the last two years.

Exception: You may be exempt from the English Language Proficiency requirement if:

  • You are a first-time freshman applicant who has attended a high school in the U.S. for three or more years, OR have attended a high school where English is the principal language of instruction for three or more years. 
  • You are a transfer applicant who has attended a college or university in the U.S. and have completed the Written Composition requirement with a grade of "C-" or higher OR have attended a college or university outside the U.S. where English is the principal language of instruction for three or more years. 
  • You are a graduate applicant who has earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a college or university in the U.S OR have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a college or university outside the U.S. where English is the principal language of instruction for the university, the English proficiency exam may be waived.  
  • If you earned an Associate's Degree or Associate's Degree for Transfer at a U.S. Community College.

Please note that, CSUSB International Admissions understands “where English is the principal language of instruction” to mean that a school is situated in a country where English is the daily medium of communication for the majority of residents, and that students obtain academic instruction in English at all levels of education.

3. Affidavit of Support

International applicants must submit a statement of financial responsibility to be considered for admission to the university. International students are also required to submit evidence of adequate medical/hospital insurance to the international student advisor.

Required Documents for Your Student Visa

International students are required to submit a statement of financial responsibility.

E-mail Notification

Within approximately two weeks of submitting your application you will receive an acknowledgement letter by mail. The acknowledgment letter serves as confirmation that our office has received your application. The letter will contain your MyCoyote ID number, activation code and CSUSB e-mail account information. Please contact us if you do not receive this letter after two weeks from submission of your application.

MyCoyote Account

Through MyCoyote, applicants can view their application status and determine if there are any other documents to submit to the International Admissions office. Students can also access their PAWS report, registration appointment date and time, and access their CSUSB e-mail account for important notices.
