Link Block

Link Block Examples

There are three different styles of Link Blocks that Web Services is able to provide for you.

Card Style - This style is more for informational links where you'd like to provide a bit more information to the user to know what they will be clicking on. A great way to display services offered by a department.

Overlay Tall Style - This style is more for content editors that would like a more Image heavy link that grabs a user's attention.

Overlay Style - This is equally a heavy image focused link but for users who would like the link blocks to take up less space.

Add a Link Block

  1. Login to Drupal using the "Drupal Login" link in the footer of any Drupal page.

  2. Select the "Content" link from the top left of the Drupal Administrator Menu, then select the blue "+ Add Content" link.

  3. From the Add Content page, select "Link Block". Alternatively you can go directly to the Add Link Block page using this Add Link Block Page link.

  4. You will be presented with several fields when you create your link block:

    1. Title: The title of your Link block.

    2. Title Prefix: Very short text that should be displayed directly above the title in smaller font

    3. Description: A small description about the URL the link block will be directing the user to.

    4. Image: The image for the Link Block. The ideal dimensions for a Link Block image are: 500px by 350px.

      • If you have the alternative display of displaying tall images for your Link Blocks the dimensions should ideally be: 500px by 600px

    5. Link URL: The URL the link block will link to

      • Right underneath the Link URL there is a checkbox labeled "Open in a New Window?", select this if you would like a new window opened for the user then the Link Block is clicked on.

    6. Category is used to categorize Link Blocks in Drupal. Each website that displays link blocks has a category specific to that website. This is the field you will use to make the link blocks display on your website. If you do not know your category, please email webservices@csusb.edu with the name of your site and URL of the page. We will let you know which category you should be using for your site.

    7. Section Access: Lastly, enter the Section Access that is associated with your Link Blocks and select the "Save" button which will save the Link Block and publish it.

Edit or Remove Link Block

  1. Navigate to the website where the Link Block you would like to edit or remove resides.
  2. If you have access to the site and Link Block, a pencil icon should appear in the right hand corner of the Link Block once your cursor hovers over it.

Re-Order Link Blocks

Link Blocks can be ordered in number of different ways, either by alphabetical order via title (a-z or z-a), newest to oldest first (or visa versa), display weight, plus others. You will be able to rearrange your Link Blocks if they are sorted by Display Weight. Any other method, you will need to contact Web Services for assistance.

To change the Display Weight of a Link Block:

  1.  Open the "Edit Link Block" page for the respective Link Block.
  2.  At the bottom of the page, under "Section Access", modify the "Display Weight" by selecting a value from the dropdown list. Depending on sort order of the Link Blocks, either smaller numbers will have priority or larger numbers will.
  3. Click the "Save" button to save changes. Visit the page the Link Block is located on and make note of the new Link Block order. This will help in modifying the Display Weight of the other Link Blocks.

Contact Web Services via email at webservices@csusb.edu for assistance on determining the Link Block sort order or help reordering the Link Blocks.
