Performance Management

CSUSB employees receive periodic written evaluations of their performance by their supervisor on forms provided by the Human Resources Department. CSUSB's Annual Review Process for permanent employees is on a July 1 - June 30 cycle. Permanent Staff Evaluations and MPP Evaluations are due on the last working day of June.  Confidential Evaluations are due on the last working day of July of each year.

2024 Annual Staff Evaluation

The 2024 Annual Staff Evaluation cycle for the 2023-24 evaluation period has commenced. Below is the general information, if you have a staff member who is due an evaluation for this evaluation period, you will receive a separate email from NEOGOV-Perform.

2024 Annual Staff Evaluation Cycle Deadlines

  1. 4/01/24 – Commence Staff Annual Evaluation Cycle
  2. 6/03/24 – Manager Completes Evaluation for Employee Review
  3. 6/10/24 - 6/21/24 – Employee Signs / Acknowledges Evaluation (timeline is dependent on the employee's respective Collective Bargaining Agreement). 
  4. 6/24/24 – Reviewing Officer(s) Sign / Approves Evaluation
  5. 6/30/24 – Annual Staff Evaluation Cycle Concludes

Un-Represented Employees

Management Personnel Plan (MPP)

Per the Management Personnel Plan dated January 1, 1984, employees in this Management Group shall be evaluated after six months and one year of service, and subsequently at one-year intervals during the Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in the Human Resources Department on the last working day of June.

Confidential (C99)

  • Probationary Employees: In classifications of One-Year Probationary Period (Confidential Office Support & Confidential Technical Support) are evaluated by completion of their six and twelve months of employment. Human Resources sends a monthly reminder to department when employees have a probationary evaluation due.
  • In classifications of Two-Year Probationary Period (Confidential Administrative) are evaluated by completion of their six, twelve and eighteen months of employment.

  • Permanent Confidential Employees are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June. See CSU Systemwide Policy.

 

Represented Employees

 

Unit 1 (Physicians)

  • Probationary Physicians have a Two-Year Probationary Period and are evaluated by completion of six, twelve and eighteen months of employment. Human Resources sends a monthly reminder to department when employees have a probationary evaluation due.

  • Permanent Physicians are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June.

 

Units 2, 5, 7 & 9 (CSUEU)

  • Probationary Employees have a One-Year Probationary Period and are evaluated by completion of three, six and eleven months of employment. Human Resources sends a monthly reminder to department when employees have a probationary evaluation due.

  • Permanent Employees are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June. Some Bargaining Units require that the evaluator provide a draft evaluation for the employee's review, and the employee has a certain number of days to review the draft evaluation and provide input, if any, to the evaluator.

  • CSUEU (Units 2, 5, 7, & 9) allows employee 10 days for review of draft evaluation.

Unit 4 (Academic Professionals)

  • Probationary Employees have a One-Year Probationary Period and are evaluated at least once on an annual basis.

  • Permanent Employees are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June.

  • APC (Unit 4) allows employee 14 days for review of draft evaluation.
     

Unit 6 (Skilled Trades)

  • Probationary Employees have a One-Year Probationary Period and are evaluated within two (2) weeks of having completed the sixth (6th) and eleventh (11th) month of the probationary period.

 

  • Permanent Employees are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June.

 

  • Teamsters (Unit 6) allows employee 5 days for review of draft evaluation.

Unit 8 (Public Safety)

  • Probationary Employees have a One-Year Probationary Period and are evaluated by completion of six, nine and twelve months of employment. Human Resources sends a monthly reminder to department when employees have a probationary evaluation due.

 

  • Permanent Employees are evaluated once a year as part of the CSUSB's Annual Review Process. Evaluations are due in Human Resources on the last working day of June.

 

Temporary Employees

All Temporary Employees (with exception of MPP, C99 & E99) are evaluated one time during their length of appointment.
