Emerging College of Education Leader - Dr. Karen Escalante
Dr. KAREN ESCALANTE is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Multiple Subject Credential Program in the Department of Teacher Education and Foundations. Dr. Escalante is presently researching the role of California’s Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) plays in fostering conversations about anti-racism. Dr. Escalante recently presented this research at the California Council on Teacher Education’s (CCTE) Fall Conference. Dr. Escalante will be presenting this ongoing research at the American Education Research Association’s (AERA) 2021 annual conference. In addition to teaching, coordinating, and research at CSUSB, Dr. Escalante is a Board Member of CCTE as well as the organization’s Research Chair. Dr. Escalante recently participated in the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) 2020 “Washington Week,” meeting with the office of Senator and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Harris’ congressional staff member attended one of Dr. Escalante’s classes to discuss educational policy and practices. Dr. Escalante was recently appointed to AACTE’s Program Advisory Committee on Educator Diversity, which works to support diversifying candidates entering credential programs. Through these organizations and opportunities, Dr. Escalante supports teacher development to effectively prepare new teachers to serve California’s diverse PK-12 student population.
