Dr. Shannon Sparks has served as a Professor in the Special Education, Rehabilitation & Counseling Program (SRC) since 2016, bringing a wealth of experience in special education to the teacher candidates she serves. With over 28 years in special education, she began her career in the Clark County School District in 1996, specializing in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.
Dr. Sparks holds a Ph.D. in Special Education and a master’s degree—in Intellectual Disability/Autism earned from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her academic journey reflects her commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments, and she teaches courses such as Methods and Procedures in Special Education, Language Development in Diverse Learners, and Supportive Learning Environments. She is grateful to work collaboratively with program faculty and staff and strives to foster a positive educational experience for all teacher candidates. Her research and teaching interests include choice-making, self-determination, transition planning, and positive behavior supports, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life and self-advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
