Health & Safety Career Panel

In the ever-evolving landscape of health and safety, staying ahead of the curve is crucial. The Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) at CSUSB recognizes the importance of supporting student success by offering opportunities to connect with industry experts and gain real-world experience. EHS, in partnership with the Career Center and the Department of Health Sciences & Human Ecology within the College of Natural Sciences, recently hosted its inaugural Health & Safety Career Discussion Panel on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

This groundbreaking event not only promotes safety on campus but also extends access for students to understand what a career in health and safety could look like. The panel featured distinguished experts, including Angel Romero, President of the Los Angeles Chapter for the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Dora Mejia, PsyD, Emergency Services Supervisor for the Department of Behavioral Health in San Bernardino County, Mahmood Nikbakhtzadeh, PhD, faculty and program coordinator for Environmental Health Sciences at CSUSB, and Rania Sabty, PhD, an Environmental Health Specialist and Program Manager/Educator for WRUC.

The event, offering both in-person and virtual attendance options from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It served as a vital platform for CSUSB students and alumni, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future careers and academic pursuits by connecting with seasoned professionals in the field. Questions from students ranged from "What was the most interesting/passionate research you have done?" to "What advice do you have for students/alumni who are just beginning to explore careers in health & safety?"

The diverse perspectives of the panelists, their experiences, and areas of expertise enriched the learning experiences of CSUSB students, inspiring and guiding them towards fulfilling and impactful careers in health and safety. As EHS continues to champion student success, it looks forward to hosting more enriching sessions in the future, further solidifying its commitment to providing invaluable insights and opportunities for its students.
