  • A book by Professor Nicholas Bratcher titled "Rainbow Jukebox" is my small way of passing along an experience to any and all who wish to be emboldened by its pages. It is not meant as a comprehensive guide to LGBTQ+ music history, but rather an ever-expanding snapshot. This “companion” textbook for LGBTQ+ Perspectives in American Music is a living, breathing, document; one that will continue to be updated to reflect knowledge gathered and the events of the present. You don’t even need to be a music student (or even a musician) to utilize its teachings. However, it is meant to empower students and faculty (and those outside the realm of academia) to hear the collective album of a community of people who are still fighting for freedom and acceptance. Thank you for taking this journey with me, and I hope you enjoy the ride!

Student Clubs and Organizations

  • The Pride Pack, is a student led organization at CSUSB. Our goal in starting this club was to create a safe space for students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • PDC Pride is a student group dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students and supporting their social and educational needs. In keeping with CSUSB's belief in the dignity and worth of all members of our campus community, PDC Pride supports and affirms all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Academic Resources

  • CSUSB offers both a minor and certificate program in Gender and Sexuality Studies. The aim of both programs is to prepare students, through the study of gender and sexuality, with insights, knowledge, and interpretive frameworks that will equip them personally, intellectually, and professionally. The programs allow students to examine how gender and/or sexuality as social constructs shape (and are shaped by) individual lives, groups, institutions, and social structures.

This course is a study of the LGBTQ artistic contributions to include composing, performing, and producing art and popular music from the queer perspective. This course will focus on contemporary literary critique, listening/viewing and discussion. Satisfies GE Category C1; DI designation.
