A component of the three-day event was a stop at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus for a special presentation. In addition, on the second day of the summit, Robert Nava, vice president University Advancement, participated in roundtable discussion with Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis on how PDC serves the region’s higher education needs.
Thomas McWeeney (public administration) co-wrote an opinion column on that called for a more comprehensive approach in keeping school sites safe, Brian Levin (criminal justice) was interviewed about the increase in hate crimes in Texas, and Anna Long (entrepreneurship) talked about CSUSB’s two winning teams in the Sunstone CSU Startup Launch Competition.
Henrietta Nwamu (nursing) and Anna Ya Ni (public administration) collaborated on a paper examining online learning for nursing students, Barbara Sirotnik (information and decision sciences) commented on the state of the region’s economy, and Anna Long (entrepreneurship) congratulated CSUSB’s two winning teams in the Sunstone CSU Startup Launch Competition.
The Entrepreneurial Resource Center (ERC) will be an easily accessible hub for small business training and technical assistance services serving Southwest Riverside County.
CSUSB’s two teams – AxoTech and Solubrin – competed in both of the Product Tracks and took home first place in both tracks, winning $25,000 for each team.
The unique program, which launched in fall 2020, is one of less than 15 existing worldwide.
The event featured various contests for the students including an elevator pitch competition, a financial statement competition, a Quickbooks competition and a marketing plan competition. The event also had the students create their own businesses and set up booths where they could market and sell their products as part of a competition.
Mike Stull (entrepreneurship), Stacey Fraser (music), Kristi Papailler (theatre arts) and Brian Levin (criminal justice) were mentioned in recent news coverage, and a study by Gisela Bichler (criminal justice) was recently published.
The Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship at Cal State San Bernardino has sponsored the VE Regional Tradeshow and Competition program annually since 2018. The 2023 event will mark the first time the program has been held at CSUSB.
