History Club and Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta is “a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.” The organization seeks, “to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication.” History Club is a student organization aimed at promoting the study of history on campus and in the community. It is sponsored by Alpha Delta Nu, CSUSB’s chapter of the national honor society in history, Phi Alpha Theta.Visit the website of the local chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. History Club and Phi Alpha Theta also has a Facebook page where all announcements and information is also posted. 

Departmental Scholarships

There are a number of departmental scholarships available to undergraduate history students. These will be announced throughout the year and requests for applications will be posted. Please contact the history office for more information. For university scholarships, consult the Course Catalog. History in the Making Journal

Another vehicle by which students are able to enhance their resumes is CSUSB’s journal of history. History in the Making is student run and reviewed. Students can apply for positions as editors/reviewers or web designers, or submit their work from any field of history for publication. Submissions are reviewed using a double-blind process. Exemplary work is published in the spring. Whether one serves as an editor, web designer, or contributor; participation in the journal process is a unique and valuable experience. Student from the history department can gain valuable hands-on experiences in the field of history through internships.
