Studio Incubator

What we are:

The Studio Incubator is a Pathways to Success Grant funded lab whose mission is two fold.

#1. The Studio Incubator provides career readiness opportunities for Arts and Humanities students to work in a functioning communications media design studio.

#2. The Studio Incubator supports and is a media resource for faculty, departments, and colleges in their efforts to promote Arts & Humanities related events, initiatives and any Pathways to Success grant related activities.

How we support Career Readiness efforts for Arts and Humanities students:

The Pathways to Success grant provides 5 years of support for the hiring of student assistants to work in the studio. Students work with Studio Incubator director, Professor Andrew Oakes, (CSUSB Art & Design Department). The Studio Incubator’s goal is to hone the students’ skills and provide them with career readiness scenarios that directly translate to the career-related skills. These positions provide students with invaluable experience that can produce numerous opportunities and benefits for professional and personal development. These students can gain important expertise that can prepare them for career environments outside of college, as well give them the opportunity to develop important projects to use for their resumes and portfolios. Employers value practical experience, and these student assistant positions provide evidence of a candidate's ability to learn, adapt, and contribute in a professional setting. By providing students with this opportunity, we can lay a solid foundation for their professional future.

Support at a Glance:

  • Provide paid student assistant jobs in their field of study
  • Hone student skills with practical projects
  • Help students build their portfolios and resumes
  • Provide opportunities to be part of a team and build on their collaboration skills.

If you are a student and are interested in a position with the Studio Incubator, or it might be something that you are interested in and would like more information, contact Professor Andrew Oakes @ aoakes@csusb.edu

How we support Grant Related activities for Faculty, Departments and Colleges in the Arts and Humanities:

The Studio Incubator provides comprehensive media support to faculty, departments and colleges for Arts & Humanities related activities at California State San Bernardino, Norco College, and San Bernardino Valley College.

We understand that navigating the media landscape can be daunting as well as time-consuming, so we offer media related assistance that enables faculty, departments and colleges to create impactful media that can move the needle in the direction of student success. Just think of us as your personal design and communication team!

We have already provided aid for workshops, orientations, internships, design exhibitions, and more. Furthermore, the more projects you provide us, the more opportunities we can provide for students.

What we can do for faculty, departments or colleges:

  • Aid in developing promotional materials to support Grant Related activities
  • Consult or advise on design or promotion related activities
  • Assist faculty, departments or colleges in their efforts to promote Arts and Humanities related initiatives.

If you are interested in working with the Studio Incubator, or have a project you feel could benefit from the support of a media team, please reach out to Professor Brian Heisterkamp (CSUSB Comm Studies and P.I. for the Pathways to Success grant) via email: bheister@csusb.edu or call us at (909) 537-4383
