Percussion Ensemble Main Content
CSUSB’s Percussion Ensemble performs a wide range of classical, jazz, and world music, and includes a steel drum band, Coyote Steel. The ensemble performs on campus every semester, often sharing concerts with high school ensembles and periodically bringing eminent guest percussionists to campus. Past guests have included composer and educator William Kraft, members of the LA Philharmonic, world renowned marimbist Naoko Takada, and the Grammy-nominated LA Percussion Quartet. Each spring the group tours off-campus, most recently performing for the California Percussive Arts Society’s annual competitive festival and touring in the Victorville area. The group also periodically combines to perform with Spark Percussion, a professional ensemble of alumni and faculty in residence at CSUSB.
The percussion ensemble rehearses weekly every semester from 10:30 to 11:45 am on Tuesday and Thursday. Any student on campus with prior percussion experience is welcome to audition for the group, and non-percussionists are encouraged to inquire about world music opportunities, including Coyote Steel. Please direct all inquires to Dr. Todd A. Johnson at percussion@csusb.edu or 909-537-5483.
