Michael Karp (history) will host the Academic World Quest competition Feb. 13 at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and Brian Levin (criminal justice, emeritus) was interviewed for an article about what may have motivated a 17-year-old Antioch (Tenn.) High School student to fatally shoot a classmate.
The exclusive interview, moderated by Robert Nava, vice president for University Advancement & executive director of the CSUSB Philanthropic Foundation, provided attendees with an in-depth look into Chandi’s remarkable business journey and his approach to leadership, innovation and community impact.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, CSUSB faculty, staff and students volunteered at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission and Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino, giving back to the community and helping local families in need.
Nachhattar S. Chandi, owner of the Chandi Group USA, will speak at the annual event, set for 5-7 p.m. Feb. 6, at the Indian Wells Theater on the Palm Desert Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
“Her ‘Health and Thus Her Life,’” by Alicia Gutierrez-Romine (history) was published in the American Historical Association magazine Perspectives; “Well-Seasoned: Understanding and Managing Your Maturing Health,” by Sarah Dunn and Nicole Dabbs (kinesiology), appeared in the Desert Health news site; and Laurilie Jackson (communication studies, adjunct) was inducted into the Coachella Valley Journalism Foundation’s Hall of Fame.
Students were presented with nursing pins by CSUSB nursing faculty and were joined by an audience of family, friends and various CSUSB faculty, staff and administrators.
Leslie Amodeo (psychology), Meredith Conroy (political science), Deirdre Lanesskog (social work), Stuart Sumida (biology) and Barbara Flores (education, emerita) were included in news media coverage recently.
Attendees reflected on the program’s many milestones over the past 50 years and special recognition awards were presented to former department chairs, honoring their leadership and dedication.

Celebrations are set for Tuesday, Dec. 3: 10 a.m.-noon at Palm Desert Health Sciences (HS) Lobby at the Palm Desert Campus, and 3-5 p.m. in the Health and PE (HP) Complex Lobby and HP 239 at the San Bernardino campus.
