
Michael Chavez (Gabrielino-Tongva) ’19, ’22 returns to his alma mater as the university’s new Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) program manager.

Alumna Abi Carter, ’23 captivated the Acricure Arena audience on July 27 with a concert aptly named “No Amount of Dark.” It showcased Carter's diverse musical talent, ranging from country songs to soulful ballads and included a performance featuring her newly released single, “Peppermint Sky.”

Performed by Ophelia’s Jump and directed by CSUSB alumna Caitlin Lopez ’22, “Knight of the Burning Pestle,” by Frances Beaumont, continues its run Friday, July 19, and Sunday, July 21, as part of the Midsummer Shakespeare Festival in the Sontag Greek Theatre at Pomona College in Claremont.

Edwin Gomez, Riverside County superintendent of schools and an alumnus of Cal State San Bernardino, will be honored by the California Association of Latino Superintendents & Administrators at its Honoring Our Own Gala on June 28.

Patrick Marshall, CSUSB MBA alumnus, was the recipient of the prestigious Equity and Social Justice: Change Agent Award at the 2024 National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education.

CSUSB alumnus Jay Gerren had his most recent film, “Bar Daddy,” screened at the Pan African Film + Arts Festival in LA in February. The event is among the largest African American film festivals in the nation.

On the May 19 show finale, CSUSB Palm Desert Campus alumna Abi Carter ’23, the singing sensation from Indio, concluded her extraordinary run on season 22 of “American Idol” by being crowned the winner.

Alumna Laurena “Lala” Bolden ’11, psychology and criminal justice, was recognized by the Time for Change Foundation with its 2024 Community Champion Award.

Among Caitlin Kim’s learning experiences at CSUSB was the Nursing Street Medicine program. “It taught me a lot of things about life,” she said.
