Best Practices in Faculty Evaluation and Retention Toolkits
As with our faculty hiring materials, we created resources for faculty promotion, tenure, and retention review/evaluation that were tailored for CSUSB’s use but can be adapted for use at other institutions.
Faculty Learning Community Initiative
During the 2021-2022 Academic Year, the DEPTH Team in collaboration with the ISSUES-X team sponsored and facilitated six Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs). Each FLC consisted of 2-4 faculty members from a department in the College of Natural Sciences. The primary goal of each FLCs was to draft tenure and promotion guidelines for their department that were grounded in DEI best practices.

Exit Interview Initiative
During the first three years of the DEPTH initiatives, a trusted faculty member (past Faculty Senate Chair and Union Faculty Rights Representative) interviewed all exiting faculty, including those who resigned, retired, or were entering the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP). Academic Deans and Department Chairs were interviewed and surveyed regarding their understanding of why faculty in their unit had resigned or were retiring or FERPing.
