Why major in Chemistry - Biochemistry?

Strong Academic Preparation for Advanced Studies

An education in Chemistry or Biochemistry can serve as a solid academic foundation that can take you anywhere you want to go. Some of the many career paths our students have chosen include: medicine, research, pharmaceuticals, law and nursing. Each year we also have a number of students who choose to go into teaching, service or directly into the workforce in a science related field.

State of the Art Learning Facilities

The Chemical Sciences building was built in 2005. This facility has nine new chemistry instructional laboratories, many project laboratories for faculty/student research, and modern classrooms. In addition, significant resources were allocated to update the department's scientific equipment.

A good education in chemistry must of necessity include exposure to a variety of modern chemical instrumentation. The department has acquired a significant amount of equipment and instrumentation over the years, funded by the University, or by external sources via successful grant applications. The instrumentation is used extensively in undergraduate classes, as well as by students and faculty involved in research.
