Dr. Tim Akers, M.S., Ph.D.

About:

Dr. Timothy A. Akers, M.S., Ph.D. is a nationally recognized leader in public health, criminology, and quantum literacy, currently serving as Chief Research Officer and Associate Provost for Academic Research at California State University, San Bernardino. A pioneering scholar and practitioner, Dr. Akers is the founder and volunteer CEO of the National Quantum Literacy Network (NQLN), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) advancing emerging quantum AI technologies for accelerating workforce development.

He is the originator of Epidemiological Criminology, a groundbreaking interdisciplinary theory and framework that integrates public health and criminal justice and has authored over 268 interdisciplinary publications. Dr. Akers previously served in senior roles at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and as a Senior Research Scientist at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine.

Appointed by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. Department of Energy, Dr. Akers served on the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee (NQIAC) and is an External Advisory Board member for MonArk, the NSF-funded 2D quantum materials research center at Montana State University and the University of Arkansas.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Dr. Akers served with distinction as a Security Police specialist in counterterrorism and nuclear weapons security, earning a Meritorious Achievement Medal for Research. He continues to lead nationally in research development, having guided interdisciplinary teams to secure major federal funding from NSF, NIH, DHS, DOD, among other sponsors.

His innovations include developing the nation’s first micro-credential e-learning platform in quantum literacy education, positioning him as a driving force in preparing the future workforce in quantum AI technologies through accelerated education and research. Dr. Akers also holds patents related to rapid clinical assessments and a pulmonary vest utilizing electro-sonic treatment. A proud advocate of technical and community-based education, he began his academic journey studying electrical wiring and electronics at a vocational-technical school and continued his education at community colleges while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
