Call for Proposals

Introduction

Our world and humanity face many challenges including poverty, hunger, lack of clean water, environmental pollution, diseases, inequality, and lack of access to quality education. The United Nations developed 17 Goals to transform the world through sustainable development that promotes a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous, and equitable life on earth for everyone as well as tackle climate change and environmental protection (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/).

We invite proposals for the Sustainable Development Conference, a collaborative initiative between the James Watson & Judy Watson Rodriguez Watson College of Education (WCOE), California State University San Bernardino, and Northeast Normal University, Changchun City, Jilin Province, China.

Conference Theme:

Integrating Education for Sustainable Development into Higher Education Curricula and Pedagogies 

Conference Objectives: 

  1. Collaborate and share knowledge on innovative ideas in education promoting sustainable development. 
  2. Develop networks with experts and academics leading research, publications, and creative activities for the internationalization of faculty, staff, and students. 
  3. Provide high-quality education that promotes sustainable development and innovative solutions to global problems. 
  4. Promote inclusive and equitable quality education, ensuring access for all citizens regardless of gender and socio-economic background. 
  5. Foster cultural and professional contacts and exchanges between the people of China and the U.S. 
  6. Equip faculty and students with knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions for social transformation through action-oriented, inquiry-based, and project-based learning. 

Conference Focus Areas:  

To ensure a well-rounded and inclusive conference that addresses various aspects of education for sustainable development proposals are welcomed in the following areas: 

  1. Curricular Integration for Sustainability: 
    1. Exploring innovative ways to integrate sustainable development principles into higher education curricula. 
    2. Showcasing successful case studies of sustainable development integration across various disciplines. 
  2. Pedagogical Approaches for Sustainability Education: 
    1. Presenting effective pedagogical methods and strategies for promoting sustainability education. 
    2. Discussing experiential, inquiry-based, and project-based learning approaches. 
  3. Research and Publications in Sustainable Development: 
    1. Showcasing cutting-edge research on sustainable development. 
    2. Discussing strategies for disseminating research findings through publications and their impact on sustainable education. 
  4. Global Partnerships in Education for Sustainable Development: 
    1. Exploring collaborative initiatives and partnerships between educational institutions globally. 
    2. Discussing the challenges and successes of cross-cultural collaborations in promoting sustainability. 
  5. Technology and Innovation in Sustainability Education: 
    1. Demonstrating the role of technology in enhancing sustainability education. 
    2. Discussing innovative tools, platforms, and applications for teaching and learning sustainability. 
  6. Community Engagement and Outreach: 
    1. Showcasing successful community engagement projects related to sustainability. 
    2. Discussing the role of universities in fostering community partnerships for sustainable development. 
  7. Assessment and Evaluation of Sustainable Learning Outcomes: 
    1. Exploring effective methods for assessing and evaluating student learning outcomes in sustainable development. 
    2. Discussing strategies for measuring the impact of sustainability education. 
  8. Student Perspectives and Initiatives: 
    1. Providing a platform for students to share their experiences, projects, and initiatives related to sustainability. 
    2. Discussing student-led initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. 
  9. Teacher Professional Development for Sustainability Education: 
    1. Presenting models and programs for the professional development of teachers in sustainability education. 
    2. Discussing the importance of continuous learning for educators in the field of sustainability. 
  10. Policy and Advocacy for Sustainable Education: 
    1. Examining the role of policies in promoting sustainability education at institutional and national levels. 
    2. Discussing advocacy strategies for integrating sustainable development into educational policies.

Proposal Submission

We welcome proposals for the following types of presentations:

  • Individual Paper Presentation
  • Panel Sessions

  • Poster Presentations

Proposal Format:

  • All proposals must be submitted in English

The proposal should include:

  • Title of the Presentation
  • Abstract (Maximum 300 words)
  • Focus Area/Strand
  • Presenter(s) Name(s) and Affiliation(s)
  • Contact Information (Email, Phone Number)
  • Preferred Presentation Format (Individual Paper, Panel, Workshop, Poster)
  • Audio-Visual Requirement (if any)

    1. Adapting language teaching methodologies to incorporate sustainability concepts.
    2. Addressing challenges in teacher training for promoting sustainable development.

    1. Enhancing the inclusive and equitable quality of education through special education. 
    2. Addressing the unique needs of diverse learners in the context of sustainable development. 
  5. Career and Technical Education for Economic Growth and Sustainability: 
    1. Focusing on practical skills and knowledge in education for economic growth and sustainability. 
    2. Exploring the role of career and technical education in addressing global challenges. 
  6. Adult Education for Lifelong Learning Opportunities: 
    1. Creating lifelong learning opportunities through adult education.

Review Process:

  • All proposals will undergo a blind peer-review process by our panel of experts

Presenter Registration:

  • If your proposal is accepted, at least one presenter must register for the conference by the registration deadline to confirm participation

Publication Opportunities:
