Ahlam Muhtaseb (media studies) discussed the Phoenix of Gaza XR virtual reality project, Lucy Lewis (music) was interviewed about the inaugural performance of the San Bernardino Youth Symphony Orchestra, Terezie Tolar-Peterson (health and human ecology) is the principal investigator for a grant aimed at combating acute child malnutrition in Nigeria, and Stuart Sumida (biology) discussed researchers’ access to privately owned fossils.

The project, titled “The Phoenix of Gaza XR,” is a collaborative virtual reality endeavor, which uses immersive technologies to document life in Gaza, was developed by Ahlam Muhtaseb, professor of communication and media studies, and her former student, CSUSB alumnus Naim Aburaddi.

The fourth annual President’s and Philanthropic Foundation Board Holiday Dinner took place on Dec. 7.

Michelle Decker, president and CEO of the Inland Empire Community Foundation, was honored with the CSUSB President’s Medal at the university’s President’s and Philanthropic Foundation Board Holiday Dinner on Dec. 7.

Dr. Appannagari “Dev” GnanaDev (Distinguished Alumni Award), Mirna Orihuela (Emerging Leader Award) and Roderick M. “Rod” Hendry (Coyote Spirit Award) are among the eight who will be honored at the annual Alumni Hall of Fame event in the spring.

Three university-wide awards — Distinguished Alumnus, Emerging Leader and Coyote Spirit — will be presented, as well as the Paw Print Awards, which honor esteemed alumni from each of the university’s five colleges.

Family, friends and former coworkers joined the university community for the annual Day of Remembrance, hosted by CSUSB’s College of Natural Sciences, of which five of the 14 were alumni of the Department of Biology and Department of Health Science.

The Day of Remembrance to honor the memory of 14 individuals, including five CSUSB College of Natural Sciences alumni, lost during the 2015 mass shooting in San Bernardino, will be held at 3 p.m. at the university’s Peace Garden, next to the Chemical Sciences building.

As a young married couple, CSUSB alumni Patricia Kraemer and James Stockman took turns pursuing their undergraduate degrees. Four decades later, they reflect on their experiences as students, discover commonalities between then and now, and have pledged to pay it forward to support future students.

Attendees engaged with recruiters, explored career pathways and learned about full-time, part-time and internship opportunities at the annual Fall Career and Internship Fair.

CSUSB’s Career Center hosted its annual Fall Career and Internship Fair, welcoming over 400 participants to campus. The event provided CSUSB undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, the opportunity to connect with over 70 employers from diverse industries.
