Current Position: Shipping Area Manager
My name is Christopher Burgess and I recently graduated with an undergraduate degree from California State University, San Bernardino in Supply Chain and Transportation Management. My path in higher education was not traditional. I owned a transportation company for more than ten years prior to beginning my career as a full-time student at Riverside City College. With cost and duration forefront, the program at CSUSB stood out as the frontrunner for potential candidacy. The application process and eventual acceptance was seamless.
Once I began the SCM program, I quickly realized how passionate I was regarding the subject matter. That feeling intensified as each quarter and eventually, semester passed. The professors at JHBC are knowledgeable business professionals who teach curriculum from a well formatted structure doused with years of industry experience. My passion for supply chain was met with equal exuberance from the teachers who led the courses.
The classes are designed to challenge undergraduates with the understanding that once they enter the workforce, these new graduates are prepared for the evolving complexities of the industry. My experience at CSUSB during the height of the pandemic was superb. My professors evolved and adapted to ever changing circumstances once curriculum moved to an online format. They kept us informed of exactly what was expected while delivering thought provoking instruction. My senior year was the best experience of my life. It was because of the connections I made with a diverse student body some of whom were located in foreign lands once we moved to the online format. The professors within the SCM program always made themselves available to give advice, help to understand the curriculum, or help making complex professional and life decisions.
Now that I have been at my new position within supply chain for a few months, I’m able to appreciate how well the program at CSUSB prepared me for this fast-paced industry. I walked into my new position with practical knowledge and experience of the computer programs I currently operate. The terminology taught in the courses is the same language used at my new job. If I had to make the decision over again, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose California State University, San Bernardino all over again for the expertise within found within the Supply Chain Program.
Thank you,
Christopher Burgess
