What is Coyote Blue?

Coyote Blue (Building Links to Undergraduate Education) is a dynamic program designed to empower high school students on their path to higher education. It focuses on students in grades 9-12 who, despite their potential, face systemic barriers that hinder their academic success. These barriers include structural inequities such as underfunded schools, limited access to advanced coursework, and a lack of support at home due to family responsibilities. Many students also struggle with low GPAs, often due to external factors beyond their control, such as economic hardship, family caregiving roles, and the challenges of living in marginalized communities that lack essential resources.

These systemic challenges—financial instability, limited access to college-preparation resources, and cultural and social obstacles—create significant hurdles for students, making it difficult for them to be seen as college-bound. Without targeted support, these barriers can perpetuate a cycle that is hard to break, limiting students' ability to reach their full academic and personal potential.

Coyote Blue provides personalized support through resources such as mentorship, college readiness workshops, and assistance with financial aid applications. The program is specifically designed for first-generation students and those from historically marginalized backgrounds, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to navigate the college application process and succeed academically. By focusing on academic achievement, college preparedness, and personal development, Coyote Blue equips students with the tools to build a strong foundation for success in higher education and beyond, empowering them to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential.

What is Coyote Blue's Targeted Population?

This program is designed for students in grades 9-12 who, despite their potential, have faced challenges that have impacted their academic performance. These students may not traditionally be seen as college-bound due to lower GPAs, and may have been overlooked by educators or placed under lower expectations based on circumstances beyond their control, such as economic hardship, family responsibilities, or other personal obstacles. The program focuses on students who would be the first in their family to attend college and who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

What types of support and resources does Coyote Blue help students prepare for college?

Dual Enrollment Opportunities: Coyote Blue offers high school students the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses, allowing them to earn college credits while completing their high school education. This valuable experience helps students build a strong academic foundation and potentially shorten their time to degree completion in higher education.

Rear-round services: The program includes a summer residential seminar and continues throughout the academic year, offering personalized coaching, dual enrollment opportunities, and college readiness workshops to ensure continuous progress and comprehensive preparation for postsecondary education.

Guidance on College Preparation: Coyote Blue offers workshops focused on key aspects of college readiness, including navigating the college application process, understanding financial aid options, and developing strategies for academic success. These workshops equip students with the tools and knowledge needed to confidently take the next step in their educational journey.

Financial Aid Support: Get the resources you need to make college more affordable.

Personalized Coaching: Ongoing support from success coaches who assist with academic progress and college application processes.

Parent & Family Engagement: Coyote Blue offers workshops and resources to help families understand the college process, financial aid, and how to support their students, particularly for first-generation families. Additionally, we provide ongoing communication to keep families informed and involved throughout the college journey.

These services ensure that students are supported and prepared throughout the college application process.

Are there costs associated with Coyote Blue?
