
Nearly 1,600 graduates participated in five ceremonies over the Dec. 15-16 weekend at Coussoulis Arena, which was packed at each ceremony with family and friends celebrating their accomplishments.

Kristi Papailler (theatre arts) was interviewed for an article about one of her students, Dea Armstrong, who won a national award, and Diane Vines (nursing) was honored by her alma mater, Vanderbilt University, with an award for public service.

CSUSB’s Coussoulis Arena will be the site of the university’s Fall Commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16.

Alexis Arias was presented with a $25,000 check at a surprise event held at Amistad High School where she is a 12th grade English teacher.

Dea Armstrong’s essay on former slave, abolitionist and playwright William Wells Brown marked the first time a Cal State San Bernardino student won a Black Theatre Network research award. “Stepping out of my comfort zone and really applying myself has made all of this come true,” she said.

Anthony Donatelli, BA, communication studies ’15, is being recognized for his creativity and impact in the spheres of broadcast journalism, digital media and mass communication.

Quoted in recent news articles or publishing research are Kathryn Ervin (theatre arts emerita) and Brian Levin (criminal justice emeritus); Eugene H. Wong, Kevin P. Rosales and Lisa Looney (child development); Edna Martinez (associate vice president and administrator in charge of the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus) co-authored a study with Sharon Velarde Pierce (CSUSB public administration); and Jonathan Jay Dubois (anthropology).

The exhibition by Alexander Dixon will run from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, featuring a series of interactive glass artworks centered around perception and reality. A reception is scheduled for Nov. 30, from 4-6 p.m.

The 42 students representing a cross-section of academic disciplines, presented their research at the 2023 Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research Conference, “Discover the Possibilities,” which took place Nov. 18 at Cal State Fullerton.
