The spring lineup of talks in the Provost Presents Faculty Research Series have been announced.

All talks will take place in the Faculty Center for Excellence, located in the John M. Pfau Library, room PL-4005. Registration in advance is recommended, and can be done online; click on the title of each talk listed below.

Feb. 12, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Debora Perez Torrez, assistant professor of communication studies, will present “Koinonic Media and Media-Based Coping for Latino Populations.” Torrez will discuss her research project, which studies the prosocial uses of media, particularly for non-dominant social groups, such as Latinos, describing the general and specific benefits that these groups can attain from consuming identity-enhancing media.

March 26, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Michelle Russen, assistant professor of marketing, will present “Leadership Inclusion Theory.” Russen’s research focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion in hospitality leadership.

April 22, Noon-1:30 p.m. Yolonda Youngs, professor of geography, will present “Framing Nature: The Creation of an American Icon at the Grand Canyon.” Youngs will discuss her research on the cultural, visual, and social history of the Grand Canyon. Her talk, which takes its title from her latest book, will explore how visual representations such as postcards, maps and photographs have transformed the Grand Canyon into an iconic symbol of American cultural identity.

April 30, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Hannah Kivalahula-Uddin, assistant professor of educational leadership and technology, will present “Ho‘oponopono to Improve Family Engagement in Academic Programs.” Her presentation takes its title from her most recent book chapter, which will appear in the forthcoming book, “Ancestors-in-Training: Our Legacy as Indigenous Leaders.”

The series, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by CSUSB Libraries, the James R. Watson and Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education and the Faculty Center for Excellence.
