The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) at Cal State San Bernardino and the Department of Art and Design present “The Sleep of Reason: The 51st Annual Student Art Exhibition,” featuring artwork from the next generation of emerging Inland Empire artists.
Original CSUSB undergraduate student artwork will be on display at RAFFMA from May 20 - June 24. An awards ceremony will be held Thursday, May 18, at 6 p.m., followed by a reception at 7:30 p.m.
This year, Nicolas Orozco-Valdivia, curatorial assistant of the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College, was selected to serve as the exhibition juror. In his juror statement, Orozco-Valdivia asks, “What does the work of the 51st Annual Student Exhibition tell us about our world? What do the dreams of Cal State San Bernardino’s artists create? Perhaps art helps us pay attention to our own dreams. Where are they leading us?”
Orozco-Valdivia selected more than 30 pieces to be shown in the highly competitive exhibition, which will feature work from the following students:
Alyssa Alminiana, Tommy Bachman, Ivette Barragan, Mirna Bonilla, Cari Bruno, Alyssa Bustos, Nicole Charles, Alessandro Corsaro, Avalon Divine, Holland Danea, Gabriela Diaz, Duane Duarte, Hector Eligio, Aleah Galvan, Chase Hanson, Nathalie Hering, Luis Maciel, Rod Munoz, Luisa Notarangelo, Nancy Ocegueda, Deandre Oneal, Angel Nehemias Perez-Martinez, Jasmin Ramirez, Jennifer Ruberio, Wendi Orozco Salazar, Cristina del Carmen Sandoval, Nicole Stigers, Elvan Ta, Licet Torres, Diane Torrence, Jamie Tricinella, Jesus Velasco and Jocelyn Williams.
This group of students demonstrate the art department’s focus on developing emerging artists and designers who are professional, technically skilled, conceptually astute and innovative. RAFFMA’s galleries will be filled with a variety of media, subjects, approaches and styles that express a wide range of ideas about traditional and contemporary art.
