Cal State San Bernardino students Amber Bowser, Andrea Clary and Ordando Prieto will be featured in an exhibit titled “I am…” in the on-campus Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art’s Dutton Family Gallery beginning Nov. 13 and running through Nov. 26.
The second-year students will exhibit diverse works completed thus far within the Master of Fine Arts in studio art three-year program. A reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Bowser is a painter, draftsperson and mixed media artist. She depicts African American women in a positive light while showcasing beautiful features like their melanated skin and big coarse/curly hair. She hopes to showcase black beauty to the world and especially to young girls who look like her, to show them that no matter what the critics say, their black is beautiful.
Clary’s work is about self-acceptance and body positivity. She is learning to love and accept her own body and channel this personal growth into her ceramics. Clary grew up in Seattle, Washington, and later moved to Los Angeles to receive her Bachelor of Art and Master of Art at California State University, Northridge. She is an Asian American artist and a body positivity activist.
Prieto is inspired to challenge religious stigma on homosexuality; He manipulates and subverts religious symbols and iconography to create new, contemporary mythologies.
