The second week we are in Barcelona (where you stay in single rooms in a student residence).
The program includes many of the following guided cultural and academic activities:

Meals and lodging are included: In Salamanca, you have three meals a day with the host family. Occasionally, your host family will prepare sandwiches for you to take on an all-day excursion. In Barcelona, you have an allowance to purchase your own food. In addition, we have a welcome dinner in Salamanca, a dinner in Madrid, a farewell dinner in Barcelona, and a cooking class dinner.
Local transport is included: While you are responsible for purchasing your own plane ticket to Spain (we will suggest specific flights for you), all transport in Spain is included (to/from cities and within cities).
Courses: This program includes two courses in summer session 1. The courses count towards the Criminal Justice Spanish Certificate (and/or the Healthcare Spanish Certificate, the Spanish Minor, the Spanish Major). Span 4401: Spanish for the Professions (3 units) and Span 5557: International Experience (3 units). You will be registered and will have to complete both courses as part of this program. Local Service-Learning
If you are unable to participate in the study abroad program in Costa Rica or in Spain, you can take Span 4443 instead of Span 5557 to complete the Healthcare Spanish Certificate Program. Span 4443 (3 units) is a service-learning course offered each semester (Fall and Spring).
About Span 4443
The class requires 90 hours of service for academically related tasks using your Spanish language skills. You will be placed in an internship or service-learning project in healthcare-related or social service agencies, or in an educational context. The actual duties of your internship will benefit both you and the agency and will be determined by the agency or its representative(s), agreed to by you, with final approval resting with the Internship Coordinator.
We partner with different agencies throughout the school year.
To sign up for Span 4443
Please complete the Span 4443 Service-Learning Interest Form.
After you submit the form, Dr. Dagostino will follow up with information about placement and the next steps. Please note this does not enroll you into the course.
