The FCE team provide wide-ranging support for faculty to advance their professional goals in teaching; research, scholarly, and creative activities; and service. We seek to provide professional development to help our colleagues succeed in their academic careers by fostering creativity, learning, inquiry, and exploration through community, collaboration, and collegiality in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive atmosphere. Furthermore, we are dedicated to:
- Provide faculty with opportunities for continuous improvement of their teaching through workshops, certificate programs, teaching institutes, and other events
- Support new and pre-tenure faculty in learning CSUSB's systems and culture; in navigating and succeeding in the faculty evaluation process; and in advancing their research, scholarship, creative activities
- Support all faculty in instructional design for in-person, hybrid, and online courses; and in the effective use of academic technologies, including the Canvas learning management system
- Provide an environment that builds a sense of community and belonging, and values and promotes faculty initiative, exploration, innovation, and advancement
- Establish and maintain a central repository of information and training resources relevant to best teaching practices, faculty mentorship, and academic technologies
We are located in the Faculty Center for Excellence, Pfau Library PL-4005, and provide free lockers and coffee, snacks, and a microwave to CSUSB faculty.
Mission Statement:
The mission of CSUSB's Faculty Center for Excellence is to partner with faculty to foster innovative, inclusive, and evidence-based teaching practices; to provide mentorship to faculty as they navigate all stages of their professional life; to promote faculty’s effective use of instructional design and academic technologies; and to serve as a welcoming place to build a sense of community and belonging.
Goals:
To create, implement and provide professional development programs to support all of CSUSB´s tenure track faculty, lecturers and graduate teaching associates;
To support faculty in different stages of growth and professional development;
To foster interdisciplinary collaboration and community among faculty;
To offer a comprehensive orientation program and a supportive onboarding process for new faculty that provides up-to-date and detailed information about the university, the retention, promotion and tenure process, and opportunities to network with other faculty;
To recognize, support and celebrate faculty on their accomplishments and successes.
