The Children's Center provides a comprehensive educational program for children between the ages of 3-5 years and a school age summer enrichment program for children between the ages of 6-12 years. The hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm and Fridays from 7:00am-5:00pm throughout the academic year. It includes two preschool classrooms, each of which is spacious and equipped with a variety of furniture and areas for activities. It has carpeted areas for quiet activities and stories, "housekeeping" areas for dramatic play, and tables for creativity and discovery.
The Children's Center utilizes two curricula. One focuses on the enhancement of the environment and the other is a play-based curriculum drawing from the constructivist approach of Piaget and Vygotsky. Together, these two curricula cover all areas of development: fine motor, gross motor, emotional, social, and cognitive, specifically literacy and numeracy.
A fenced outdoor play area is adjacent to the classrooms. The area is covered with a sand-dirt mix and has paved bicycle paths for tricycles and wheeled toys. Sandboxes, water tables, climbing equipment, a basketball court and outside toys facilitate the development of the children's motor skills. An outdoor art area promotes creativity in that it offers many art mediums for the children's interests.
