Take Back Your Campus this ASI Election!

CSUSB's Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Division of Student Affairs are proposing a Student Association Referendum to enhance student engagement, campus life, and student-athlete support. This is an initiative that you will get to vote on during the 2025 ASI Election. This referendum is a joint effort between ASI and Athletics. See below the different fee increase proposals for each department.

Why Does This Referendum Matter?

Increased Student Engagement

More funding for concerts, events, and cultural celebrations.

Student Equity Scholarships

More funding will address the financial burden of parking costs for commuter students.

ASI serves as the official student government for CSUSB, with fees contributing to student-led advocacy, events, services and more! For almost 60 years, ASI has represented the student body by voicing concerns to university administration, organizing engaging efforts, and funding student programs. Through leadership opportunities, scholarships, and resourceful initiatives, ASI plays a crucial role in shaping the student experience at CSUSB. Outlined below is ASI's fee increase proposal.

How the ASI Fee Increase Will Be Used

  • Student Engagement & Entertainment
    • $30 per student per fall semester
    • Annual revenue: $497,131
    • Supports concerts, cultural events, and large-scale student activities
  • Parking Pass Scholarship
    • $2 per student per fall semester
    • Annual revenue: $33,142
    • Supports commuter students who comprise 92% of CSUSB's student population
  • Sustaining ASI Operations
    • $16 per student per fall semester
    • Annual revenue: $265,136
    • Supports ASI programs, student leadership, and advocacy efforts.

Why an Athletics Fee Increase?

CSUSB Athletics By The Numbers

10 varsity teams competing at the NCAA level

255 current student-athletes

1,845 student-athlete alumni

2 National Championships

15 NCAA West Region Championships

31 CCAA Regular Season Championships

11 CCAA Tournament Championships

Why We Need this Fee Adjustment? CSUSB Athletics has not increased its student fee allocation since 2012, while the cost of supporting student-athletes has continued to rise.
Key Financial Challenges

Rising housing costs – Many student-athletes rely on on-campus housing but face affordability issues.

Limited scholarship funding – CSUSB Athletics provides only half of the scholarships allowed under NCAA regulations.

Program sustainability – Operating at a deficit, putting pressure on existing resources.

The Athletics Referendum will do the following:
  • Address scholarship funding gaps (only 56% of allowable NCAA scholarships).
  • Provide housing support for student-athletes.
  • Help sustain CSUSB’s competitive standing in collegiate sports.
