Yewon Sung, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Education

Dr. Yewon Sung earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education with a minor in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in August 2022. Her dissertation, titled “Korean immigrant parents’ ways and reasons to support their elementary-aged children’s mathematical meaning-making at home during the COVID-19 pandemic,” was defended in May 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Erika Bullock. Her dissertation committee included Dr. Maxine McKinney de Royston, Dr. Thomas Popkewitz, Dr. Mary Louise Gomez, Dr. Martha Alibali, and Dr. Ana Stephens.

 

Prior to her Ph.D., she received a Master of Education in Global Teacher Education from Gyeongin National University of Education in South Korea in February 2022. In August 2017, she earned a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (Math Ed) & Special Education (Dual Major) from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

 

Dr. Sung also holds another Master of Education, specializing in Mathematics Gifted Education, from Gyeongin National University of Education, obtained in August 2013. Additionally, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a specialization in Mathematics Education at the same university in August 2009. As part of her undergraduate studies, she was an exchange student in Mathematics Education at Naruto University of Education in Tokushima, Japan, from October 2007 to August 2008.
