IRB Application Submission Dates for Full Board Review

Important Note Full Board Review: The meeting dates below are for reviewing full board human research applications (protocols) only. The full board committee does not review full board review protocols during the winter and summer breaks as the IRB committee is unavailable to meet and hold a quorum as required by the federal regulations. Faculty, students, and administrators should plan accordingly to ensure the IRB applications are submitted based on the IRB schedule listed below if the study requires full board review.

Exempt, NHSR, Expedited Review: Applications submitted under exempt, No Human Subjects Research (NHSR), and expedited review are reviewed by the IRB Chair, Vice-Chair, Research Compliance Office, and the appropriate designated reviewers during the academic year and summer months. Review times vary based on the number of protocols currently under review and highly recommended to submit your application at least one month before your proposed data collection start date.

IRB meetings are conducted via Zoom during the 2024 - 2025 CSUSB Academic Year. IRB meetings are normally held from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm every other Friday of the Academic Year except for months where campus holidays are observed.

If your application is being reviewed at one of the below-scheduled meetings the IRB invites the primary investigator to attend the meeting when their applications are reviewed. Attending the meeting assists the IRB in facilitating the approval of IRB applications so the primary investigator can address any concerns or clarifications the board has regarding the study. CSUSB primary investigator (faculty, staff, students, and administration) wishing to attend must contact the Research Compliance Officer at mgillesp@csusb.edu to provide meeting details. All attendees may be asked to step out of the meeting during the IRB deliberations and when discussing confidential matters. Although visitors are allowed during portions of the meeting, the IRB has the authority to have closed discussions where only IRB members are present.

IRB ESTIMATED REVIEW TIME

• If you're submitting under full board review you are required to submit your protocol by the submission dates listed below to give the full board committee the time required to review the application. It is the investigator's responsibility (faculty, student, staff, and administrator) to submit their application in a timely manner. 

• The initial turnaround time is 30 to 40 business days for full board review. The IRB highly recommends you submit your protocol 1 1/2 months prior to the protocol intended start date

• Unaffiliated subject matter experts may be called upon if the IRB committee does not have the subject matter expertise in the proposed research study. Please note this may require additional time to review an IRB application.
