As CSUSB’s chief academic officer, A. Rafik Mohamed works to help the university’s entire teaching corps excel, with the overall goal of helping students define their own future.
Stuart Sumida is the 2022-23 recipient of the university’s Golden Apple Award, which recognizes outstanding faculty who excel in the profession of teaching and have a significant impact on students with whom they interact.
The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine ranking looks at institutions that not only enroll the highest number of Hispanic/Latino students, but also the proportion of these students on a campus.
The Sept. 7 event brought nearly 300 CSUSB administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members together in the Santos Manuel Student Union South to officially break ground for the new 73,337-square-foot Performing Arts Center.
New and returning students learned about academic tradition and campus life at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus at the event held Sept. 1.
Convocation will feature highlights from last year, the goals and challenges for the upcoming year along with announcements of the President’s Special Achievement and Outstanding Employee award winners.
“The new school designation will raise our status and may offer greater appeal to federal agencies, foundations, and philanthropic organizations seeking to support university and community partnerships focused on improving relationships and developing innovative strategies to address public safety concerns,” said Andrea Schoepfer, the school’s director.
CSUSB will offer a master of science in national cybersecurity studies, where students learn the technical skill of cybersecurity and intelligence analysis.
“I believe that we can overcome this racism that indeed has spread to every part of our body politic because I don’t feel like we have any other choice,” said Ibram X. Kendi, author of “How to Be an Antiracist,” at CSUSB on Sept. 17.
