CSUSB student Jalonis Taylor’s journey from uncertainty to success as a first-generation college student is a story of resilience and determination. A part of the First-Generation College Celebration on Nov. 8, his experience at Cal State San Bernardino shines a light on the unique challenges and triumphs that students face. Taylor’s story is a reminder that with support and perseverance, students can achieve their dreams.
As a first-generation Latina, Marilyn Monroy, a CSUSB alumna and current graduate student, was inspired by her family to pursue higher education to help others. From overcoming imposter syndrome to mentoring fellow students, Monroy's story is a testament to resilience and the impact of community support.
The donations included $1,500 in food and hygiene items for Obershaw Den and over $2,000 in toys, socks and blankets to low-income families and the homeless.
With most donning their tie-dyed I Love CSUSB T-shirts, faculty and staff were treated to lunch, music, games and prizes during the fourth annual Employee Appreciation Picnic.

The Inland Empire chapter of the Public Relations Society will honor CSUSB’s Coyote Advertising team and fall 2016 Communication Studies 243 students at the IE Polaris Awards banquet for their work to benefit the Obershaw DEN in 2016.
The CSUSB Coyote Advertising team and a CSUSB student each won an award at the Public Relations Society of America Inland Empire Chapter’s annual Polaris Awards held Nov. 9 at Center Stage in Fontana.
