Cal State San Bernardino’s 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign achieved record-breaking success, raising over $118,000 from more than 600 donors across the nation. And the amount is expected to grow as additional contributions continue to be received and processed.
Held on Dec. 3 as part of the global Giving Tuesday initiative, the funds will directly benefit projects supporting student scholarships, essential resources and impactful programs. This year’s total surpasses the $110,000 raised during last year’s event.
“Giving Tuesday at CSUSB is a powerful reminder that even the smallest act of generosity can create a ripple effect of positive change,” said Susana Barbosa, director of annual giving in CSUSB’s Office of Philanthropic Giving. “It’s a day for the entire CSUSB community — students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends — to come together, invest in the well-being of others, and make a lasting impact in our communities. Whether through donations, time or talent, each act of generosity helps build a stronger, more compassionate future for all.”
The campaign’s kick-off on campus brought the community together through engaging activities, including Pie a Professor, which invited students to pie participants in the face for a good cause. Tomás Gomez-Arias, dean of the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, gamely volunteered for the activity, helping raise nearly $100 for the college at $5 per pie.
CSUSB continues to address critical needs when state and federal funding falls short, relying on donor generosity to fill gaps. Contributions support vital programs like the Obershaw DEN food pantry, which provides warm meals for the 37% of students facing food insecurity across the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses.
