For alumnus Jose Hernandez, attending CSUSB changed his life. As a first-generation student, Cal State San Bernardino opened doors for Hernandez and provided opportunities.
Hernandez’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, and that was his inspiration to pursue higher education. College was an opportunity for Hernandez to honor his parents and the sacrifices they made to give him a better life.
When Hernandez decided to start his own business, Tacos Y Más, he received support from his parents, wife and friends. The business’ success led to the creation of four other locations in the Inland Empire. Cal State San Bernardino provided Hernandez with the tools needed to advance his career and run a successful business.
Hernandez understands the importance of education and its lasting benefits. Due to small class sizes at CSUSB, Hernandez was able to develop lasting relationships with his professors, who he is still friends with today. He loves inspiring his community and wants to pay it forward by partnering with CSUSB in the future to provide a scholarship for the Latino community.
