^B00:00:04 >> Going to college changed my life because it better prepared me for my career. I wouldn't be as prepared as I am when I opened up my first business. Being a first-generation Latino, part of my culture is interacting with families, and that's something I was able to create here at Tacos Y Mas. Both of my parents are both immigrants from Mexico. I'm a first-generation. It's something that motivated me to give that honor to my parents, that sacrifice of leaving their home country in Mexico and giving us a better future. And that's something that inspired me to pursue a college degree and then make my parents proud. When I told my parents that I decided to start a business, I definitely got the support from both of my parents, and especially from my dad. Different people motivated me, one of them being my wife, and other friends as well. One of my favorite dishes, being from Jaslican parents, is torta al valle [phonetic] and also the tacos al pastor, which is one of the most delicious and my favorite dishes. Running five locations, five restaurants, is definitely a challenge every day. But it's something that I feel prepared for and then try to manage the stress that comes with it. Running a restaurant is seeing a customer come in and leave happy. Honestly, it's something that we work hard for. Some people don't see the back end of running a business but we really give it our all to offer something good for our customers. I love interacting with customers and meeting different walks of life and it's a beautiful thing to have developed a relationship with them. Going to Cal State San Bernardino, one of the things that helped me is receiving the tools I needed to run the business and be able to keep everything in control and make it easier for me to understand the concepts of what it's like to run a business. What I like the most about my major, marketing, is the ability to express my creativity side. My time at CSUSB, I would say was probably one of the most important times as far as my career goes. I definitely had the tools needed to advance my career. I feel everyone should realize the importance of education because I feel like our community, the Latino community, needs that inspiration to go to school. Something that I would share about Cal State San Bernardino is the building of relationships, especially because some of the classrooms were real small and I was able to develop a relationship also with some of my professors, and to this day I'm still friends with some of them. I love inspiring my community, and one of the things I want to do is give back to them and eventually want to partner up with maybe Cal State San Bernardino and do a scholarship for our Latino community. My name is Jose Hernandez. I love CSUSB and I'm a Coyote for life. ^M00:02:29 [ Coyote Howl ]
