About 100-150 Latino and African-American high school seniors from throughout the inland region will visit Cal State San Bernardino to get a taste of the collegiate experience as part of the fifth annual Black & Brown Young Men’s Conference on Friday, Nov. 22.

The annual event is a cross-divisional effort to increase college awareness in Latino and African-American young men in the Inland Empire. 
 
The attending students will be treated to educational workshops to help them make informed decisions regarding their plans after graduating from high school. The program will have keynote speakers as well as CSUSB students who will be part of a student panel.
 
The goal is that the young men not only receive critical college information and the opportunity to talk about relevant issues facing young students today, but to also connect with the CSUSB community and establish mentor/mentee relationships to help them on their educational pathway to college.

Among the highlights to the event is the Coyote Mob Welcome as staff, faculty and students will line up on Friday morning at 8 a.m. from the university main entrance flag poles turnaround to the Santos Manuel Student Union by the “Wild Song” Coyote statue to welcome the high schoolers.
 
The Black and Brown Conference is a collaborative effort of the Santos Manuel Student Union, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Success and Educational Equity, Associated Students Incorporated (ASI), and the Division of Academic Affairs. 

The conference is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Santos Manuel Student Union, the College of Natural Sciences, the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the College of Education, the Jack H. Brown College Office of Academic Equity, the GEAR UP program, University Enterprise Corporation, the Undocumented Student Success Center, Student Recreation and Wellness Center, the Student African American Brotherhood, and the Office of Student Success and Educational Equity.
