The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Cal State San Bernardino as one of the leading institutions for Hispanics in the nation as listed in the Hispanic Outlook On Education Magazine.
The magazine has again named CSUSB among the top colleges and universities in granting bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees to Hispanic students.
“We’re delighted to be listed among the top higher education institutions in the nation in serving Hispanic students,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales. ”I never tire of saying that these accolades are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and administrators in providing an outstanding, thoughtful and yet challenging education not only to our Latino students, but to all of our students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.”
In individual categories, the survey listed CSUSB as fourth in the nation in awarding degrees to Hispanics in mathematics and statistics, and fourth in psychology.
Overall, the survey listed CSUSB as 19th in the nation in conferring bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics, 42nd in total enrollment of Hispanics, and 62nd in granting master’s degrees to Hispanics.
Annually, the magazine lists institutions of higher learning that have solid records in recruiting, retaining and graduating Hispanic students. The list is derived from the U.S. Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System program.
The federal government has recognized Cal State San Bernardino as a Hispanic Serving Institution, which is defined as a nonprofit college, university or system/district that has at least a 25 percent Hispanic full-time equivalent enrollment. There are more than 250 Hispanic Serving Institutions in the United States.
