SOMOS CSUSB – Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2024
Hispanic Heritage Month is here!
This year's theme SOMOS CSUSB/We Are CSUSB, unites us across campus through dancing, educational speakers, community building, familial traditions y más.
Hispanic Heritage Month provides students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to explore and become immersed in Hispanic and Latinx culture via different points of reference that will improve their education, socialization, and capacity to become mature global citizens. Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, CSUSB will showcase community leaders, faculty, staff, and students around significant themes in Latinx culture.
Please follow our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Instagram @CSUSB_JEDI
Contact Dra. Lorena Márquez (lorena.marquez@csusb.edu) for any information regarding Hispanic Heritage Month.
*Latinx is an inclusive term to encompass all genders represented in the Latin community in addition to individuals who identify as Latina/Latino.

Poetic Rhythms of Latinx Identities, with Lucas Rivera
CGI Ground Floor Patio
Cal State San Bernardino Campus
The two-part event takes place on the ground floor patio of CGI, directly across from Pfau Library. From 12:00 - 1:00 enjoy the live performance; from 1:00 - 2:00 participate in a discussion and Q&A about Rivera's work as an Afro-Latinx multidisciplinary artist.
Interactive discussion centered around the evocative poetry of Lucas Rivera. Led by Rivera himself, the event includes a full band accompaniment and takes the audience on a profound odyssey, weaving narrative nonfiction and poetry to chronicle the challenges faced by those who have endured the gripping torment of imposter syndrome, the pervasive effects of systemic racism, and a disconnection from their cultural identity. Each word, each poem, and each narrative is carefully woven together to resonate deeply with individuals who have experienced these struggles firsthand. The aim is to provide solace, validation, and a sense of belonging to those who may have felt unseen or marginalized, and to use the transformative power of storytelling and poetic expression to uplift, inspire, and empower the audience to embrace their true selves, reclaim their cultural heritage, and find strength in their own unique journey of self-discovery.
