
The annual Day of Remembrance memorial honored the 14 people, including the five College of Natural Science alumni, who were among the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health employees killed on Dec. 2, 2015.


Dorothy Chen-Maynard, professor of health science and human ecology, says it’s important to have diverse faculty so students can see that they can be successful, too.

The recipients of the award are Mahmood Nikbakhtzadeh, assistant professor of health science and human ecology; Jacob Jones, associate professor of psychology; José A. Muñoz, associate professor of sociology; and Mariam Betlemidze, associate professor of communication studies.

Neal Malik, associate professor and director of the master in public health program, uses his national podcast to educate listeners and also promote CSUSB as a leader in the fields of health and nutrition.

Paulchris Okpala, health science and human ecology professor, chose to teach at CSUSB because of the rich diversity that is celebrated on campus.


Chen-Maynard, professor of health science and human ecology, represents “all that is good as a Coyote,” observed University Awards Committee co-chairs Kimberly Cousins and Dany Doueiri in a letter to the president recommending her selection.

A Hispanic Heritage Month look-back: Angie Denisse Otiniano Verissimo, an associate professor in the Department of Health Science and Human Ecology, was selected for the Wilmer Amina Carter Award.

The complex relationship between discrimination and human ecology, and possible approaches to address it, will be the theme of a March 16 Yotie Talk featuring Angie Otiniano Verissimo, an assistant professor of health science and human ecology at Cal State San Bernardino.

Carolina Gabaldon overcame many challenges. Despite all she’s been through, the CSUSB graduate student in public health persevered, and is a recipient of the 2017-2018 CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement.
