Power to the San Bernardino campus has been restored as of 9:55 a.m. Normal campus operations will resume Friday, July 26th. Essential staff with questions on whether to report should contact their appropriate administrator. Facilities Management will be working to check all building systems including HVAC, elevators and fire alarms. If power has not been restored in your work area when you return, please report that to Facilities Planning and Management at (909) 537-5175. The Palm Desert Campus remains open and operational.

Addressing the below listed objectives, the Center was established with the goal of becoming a world class teaching and research unit devoted to the study of Islamic and Middle Eastern cultures that will enhance the curriculum and serve as a model for the CSU and contribute to cross-cultural understanding in the community, nation, and international community.

  • Continue to support and expand our interdisciplinary minor and certificate program in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES).

  • Expand our existing and highly acclaimed Arabic language program to include Turkish, Farsi, and other critical regional languages.

  • Continue our work in collaborative research and publishing activities with Middle Eastern and Islamic scholars both in the US and abroad on issues related to the Middle East and the Islamic world.

  • Expand collaborations, initiatives and student exchange programs with partner universities.

  • Continue to publish Arab Studies Quarterly, which is a prominent, peer-reviewed multi-disciplinary academic journal.

  • Support the continued expansion of the university library holdings in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.

  • Continue to expand understanding of Islam and the Middle East by offering seminars, panels, lectures, art exhibits, film & documentary screenings, and other public events.
