Academic Coach
Position name – Coyotes Achieve Academic Coach (Student Assistant)
Position Description:
Under the supervision of the Coyotes Achieve Program Coordinator, the Academic Coach will serve as peer-to-peer support for incoming CSUSB undergraduate students. Academic Coaches will be responsible for supporting students in their academic goals such as, completion of General Education (GE) requirements.
Job Duties:
Job duties for this position include the following:
- Serve as a point of contact to student participants in the Coyotes Achieve program
- Communicate through verbal, written, and electronic correspondence (i.e., sending emails, confirming appointments, responding to inquiries, etc.)
- Meet with students individually or in small groups to discuss educational goals in person or remotely on Zoom
- Provide knowledge of university policies and procedures
- Make referrals to other department resources such as Writing Center, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Math Coaching, Mentoring, etc.
- Participate and possibly host workshops/events for students
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must maintain a preferred minimum of a 2.5 GPA and be in good academic standing. Skills required include, proper phone etiquette, high ethical and confidentiality standards, ability to learn quickly, ability to work independently and within a group, ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, ability to problem solve, strong public speaking ability, strong interpersonal communication skills, must have attention to detail and be able to contribute to the intellectual and personal growth of CSUSB students.
Preference will be given to candidates who are upper division standing and have completed all or a majority of General Education (GE) requirements. Knowledge and experience using software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other applications is preferred.
