About

The College of Natural Sciences consists of ten departments and offers bachelors, master's degrees, and curricula for pre-professional students in medicine, veterinary medicine, nutrition, physical therapy, and dentistry. Programs within the College of Natural Sciences can prepare you for science and health related jobs in the public or private sector, a career in teaching, a graduate or professional education. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the Health fields (STEM+H) play an increasingly important role in our society.

The departments are well equipped with modern computers and scientific instrumentation, so that students graduate from our programs with state-of-the-art skills. The faculty and staff of the Departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geological Sciences, Health Science and Human Ecology, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Physics; and the School of Computer Science and Engineering are committed to providing an outstanding educational experience for majors. Alumni of the College demonstrate that its graduates are well prepared to enter graduate and professional schools or to assume responsible positions in industry or governmen

Biology

The Department of Biological Sciences offers the BA, BS, and MS in Biological Sciences. The Department of Biology offers a dynamic and modern program in biology that prepares students both academically and practically for vocations in science and science-related fields, or for entry into graduate studies.

Chemistry and Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry serves students who have a variety of interests. You can select from two degree programs, Chemistry or Biochemistry. In either program, you will use computers and sophisticated equipment and instrumentation early in your studies. The curriculum integrates the practical and theoretical aspects of chemistry in a way that provides you with a comprehensive knowledge base and a special confidence in using modern scientific equipment. Students who complete the BA or BS program may continue for further training in a MS or Ph.D. program or seek employment as a biochemist, forensic chemist, analytical chemist, inorganic chemist, organic chemist or technical sales representative.

Computer Science and Computer Engineering

The School of Computer Science and Engineering educates students in the disciplines of computer science and computer  engineering, and teaches them to apply their education to solve practical problems in a socially responsible way. Preparing computer professionals for Inland Empire industries, the School of Computer Science teaches the development of software using current technology. Many disciplines involve computer technology, but what distinguishes this department is its focus on the theory, tools and techniques used to design computer systems and build application software. Students may study for the BS or MS in Computer Science, the BS in Computer Engineering, the BA in Computer Systems, or the BS in Bioinformatics.

Kinesiology

The Department of Kinesiology offers three unique programs that can help students attain a successful career in the movement sciences. A CSUSB BS degree in Kinesiology can prepare you for a career in public school teaching, health promotion, fitness, and many different exercise professions. It can also prepare you for entrance into graduate and professional schools to study for health-related careers such as physical therapy, exercise science, sport pedagogy, or a variety of other human movement related fields.

Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of degrees and emphases designed to provide several blends of mathematics and specialties to the student. The BA, BS, and MA programs prepare students to solve problems. The MAT degree emphasizes a broad mathematical curriculum that makes this graduate degree ideal for students planning a teaching career at the community college or secondary school level.

Nursing

The Department of Nursing continues to evolve toward improved collaboration and innovation in nursing education, scholarship, practice and service. We average over 350 undergraduate Nursing majors in the generic pre-licensure BSN program based on twice a year admissions [Fall and Winter]. The generic BSN program is offered at San Bernardino as well as at the Palm Desert Campus [Fall admission Only]. The RN to BSN program for individuals who already possess a California RN license is offered at both sites. At the Palm Desert Campus, the RN to BSN program is hybrid, with courses offered mostly via distance learning. The MSN program [hybrid] continues to grow and attract more applicants every year.

Physician Assistant

The Department of Physician Assistant believes that a dynamic, innovative curriculum is required to develop truly multidimensional PAs. Therefore, the program integrates active learning methods, educational technology, and practical experiences to empower student learning inside and outside of the classroom.
