LatinX Graduate Recognition Ceremonies
The Association of Latino Faculty, Staff and Students (ALFSS) is proud to host annual cultural graduation recognition ceremonies as a way to honor our CSUSB graduates! All students preparing to graduate are welcome to attend any of our cultural ceremonies. ALFSS has hosted scholarship and graduate recognitions since its founding dating back to the late 1980's and began with our more traditional graduate ceremony with grads wearing their cap and gowns in the early 2000's. Today, ALFSS is pleased to host a ceremony each Spring and Fall. Spring is traditionally the larger ceremony with a larger number of graduates, but each year in December, CSUSB has many Fall graduates completing their degrees. After receiving many student requests, ALFSS hosted the Inaugural Fall LatinX Grad Ceremony in December 2019.
LatinX Grad Ceremonies have been described as fun, festive celebrations which often feature local artist such as Mariachi, Ballet Folklórico and Aztec dancers. One very special element of these cultural ceremonies is the opportunity each graduate receives to give a 'shout out' on the microphone as they cross the stage to thank their friends, family and loved ones in the audience or who may be viewing the live online stream. This 'shout out' is unique to the cultural celebration not found in the traditional commencement and can be done in any language the graduate chooses.
We look forward to celebrating the graduation accomplishments of our CSUSB graduates while also honoring culture and tradition for many years to come!
¡Felicidades Graduados!
