DEI-Related Research

First DEI-Related Research at CSUSB: February 25th, 2022

The first Annual DEI Faculty Conversation was launched on February 25, 2022 by faculty researchers from across the five colleges at CSUSB and was attended by approximately 70 members of the CSUSB community.  Moderated by Montgomery Van Wart, FDP Faculty Fellow, and hosted by Jane Chin Davidson, DEI Faculty Fellow in the FDP with Francisca Beer, Professor of Accounting and Finance in JHBC College of Business and Public Administration, the three other representatives from different departments collectively showcased what makes CSUSB a leading institution in DEI research. Dr. Beer started off the session by introducing her study on DEI’s role in behavioral finance. Next, Dr. Wagner Prado, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology from the College of Natural Sciences explained how DEI informs his research on childhood obesity in the field of physical activity and health.  The third speaker, Dr. Deirdre Lanesskog, Assistant Professor of Social Work in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences presented her work on DEI in relation to human service institutions and diverse client populations. Dr. Karen Escalante, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education & Foundations outlined her focus on Critical Race Theory and teacher education. Finally, Dr. Chin Davidson, Professor of Art History/Global Cultures in the Department of Art & Design, spoke about her research on anti-racism initiatives in art history. Having all five colleges come together in the context of research related to diversity, equity, and inclusion with such an outpouring of interest surpassed the organizer's expectations. Clearly DEI-related research is an area of outstanding excellence for our institution.
