The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Student Ambassadors program launched in fall 2022 with a total of six DSA Student Ambassadors whose role is to welcome individuals to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), respond to student inquiries, and support the work of the VPSA Office staff. The DSA Student Ambassador team has expanded and added four new members: Lyla Ochoa-Tarantino, Gerardo Torres Gomez, Enyinna Amobi, and Cindy Mercado. They will be joined by DSA Student Ambassador veterans Rhabecca Graff, Jesus Ramirez-Castillo, Maia Smart, and Priscilla Jimenez.

The DSA Student Ambassadors provide the student voice and perspective to the VPSA Office and work with the staff to uphold the campus’ and division’s mission.

Cindy, a biochemistry major entering her senior year, is looking forward to making connections this year in her role as a DSA Student Ambassador.

“COVID hit winter semester of my freshman year, so it was difficult to make connections with staff over Zoom,” said Cindy. “I’m happy we’re back in person and excited to make connections and further advance myself and hopefully add to others as well.”

Last year, DSA Student Ambassadors helped with major DSA student outreach and awareness programs like the DSA Road Show and Tea with the VP, which take place multiple times throughout the year at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. These programs give the DSA Student Ambassadors an opportunity to educate their peers about how to get engaged on campus and facilitate student learning about the many programs and services available through the DSA and across campus.

Lyla, a fourth-year Psychology major, joined the DSA Student Ambassadors because of the impact she could have at CSUSB.

“What inspired me to join the DSA Student Ambassadors team was the opportunity to make a difference on campus and serve as a positive point of contact to enrich student success,” said Lyla. “This year, I’m looking forward to all the fun events we have planned and meeting the incoming students.”

Enyinna, a second-year biology major, was motivated to join the team to help CSUSB students.

“For me, I didn’t have as much help my first year being at CSUSB so being able to help others was what inspired me to join,” said Enyinna.

Gerardo is entering his senior year as an Administration major with a concentration in Management. This year, he plans to learn, get involved, and make memories as a DSA Student Ambassador.

"I'm looking forward to sharing great moments and experiences with the team," said Gerardo.
