Meet Vanessa Hinostroza
Vanessa Hinostroza is the Communications and Social Media Specialist for the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU). She joined the Coyote family in March 2023. The CSUSB alumni graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing.
After graduation, Vanessa gained experience in her field by performing freelance marketing and social media services to various businesses.
As the Communications and Social Media Specialist, Vanessa oversees the social media content for the SMSU, Recreation and Wellness, and Esports. She coordinates the social media content calendar and works with the SMSU graphics team to ensure events are promoted to the campus community.
In addition, she serves as the Esports coordinator. As a student, Vanessa was a member of the Esports club, so this role is a full-circle moment.
Vanessa also oversees a team of four student assistants, who help bring the student voice to the social media platforms, provide photography and videography services, and help Vanessa plan out social media content for the different platforms.
“I’m super excited to do social media,” said Vanessa. “I love doing social media, so developing that for the SMSU has been great.”
Vanessa enjoys tailoring the social media content to meet students' needs. This ensures the messaging resonates with students, and Vanessa is able to share information about resources, programs, and events.
Vanessa wants students to know that the SMSU is the social hub on campus and it is the go-to place for students to gain leadership opportunities, connect, and build community. Programming is another component of the SMSU. It provides a variety of cultural, social, educational, and recreational activities, programs, and events to the campus community.
The SMSU North includes an eight-lane bowling alley and game room, food eateries, collaboration spaces for student organizations and student support centers, and a bookstore. On the third floor, students can find the Leadership Lab and affinity centers, which includes the LatinX, Pan-African Student Success, First Peoples’, and Asian Pacific Islander Centers.
The SMSU South houses The Retreat, financial literacy and graduate student success centers, and the Obershaw DEN.
