CSUSB hosted multiple events in April to celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month. Student Affairs was proud to participate in the celebration by hosting and collaborating on events with campus partners. The month honored APIDA identities, experiences, histories, and traditions.

Nationally, APIDA Heritage Month is celebrated in May. To ensure a full month of festivities before classes end in May, CSUSB chose to kick off the events and programs a month earlier.

“As co-chairs of APIDA Heritage Month, we wanted to approach the month with intention by uplifting the histories and struggles of those who are typically marginalized even within celebratory months,” said APIDA Heritage Month co-chairs Hareem Khan and Kimberly-Anne Anacleto. “We need more events on campus that not only fit in but also disrupt the boundaries of inclusion so that we are able to build solidarities across differences. That’s why the theme of this year is “Rebellion with Love.”

The APIDA events gave students the opportunity to learn about the culture and contributions the Asian, Pacific Islander, and South Asian communities have made throughout history.
