Current Status:
Undergraduate Student in The Department of Nursing
Public Speaking Experience:
I developed confidence in my public speaking abilities throughout High School from my leadership involvement in extracurricular activities. My leadership roles such as Drum Major and Section Leader for my High School band required me to constantly speak in front of my peers, directors, and staff daily. This experience not only made me more involved in an activity that I love, but it helped me develop a love for helping others and public speaking. I also developed my knowledge and experience by taking Oral Communication.
Why I work for the Speaking Center at JHBC:
I work at the speaking center because I am passionate about helping others find their voice, build confidence through public speaking and offer support in any way I can. I also want to expand my knowledge on public speaking and communication because I believe that it is a vital skill for anyone to have throughout their life.
My Consultant Philosophy:
A jazz musician, Miles Davis, once said “If you hit a wrong note, it’s the next note that you play that determines if it’s good or bad.” This quote reminds me that the mistakes we make, both in life and with public speaking, are opportunities to learn and grow. Every misstep is an opportunity to improve our skills and get better and better!
