^[music] Making Connections - Coyote Faculty B00:00:04 >> Because our campus is so diverse, there are so many opportunities that I'm beginning to realize in a lot of other places and a lot of other campuses, they don't have the range of ideas. They don't have the range of exchanges. And it shifted my thinking about, what is the picture we present? The variety of students I get to work with, the variety of faculty members I get to encounter, and the overall climate of the campus. And that's one of the things that continues to be exciting about Cal State San Bernardino. One of the things that I've been fortunate to experience here at Cal State San Bernardino is to develop my skill as a listener. My job is to be an acute listener and to hear the things that are spoken and unspoken and to lift those up so that they become part of the conversation in the class. And the conversation that people have when they're sitting in a room with someone that's really different from them and suddenly they realize they're not that different, right? And so really trying to be attentive to, number one, what is the strength that their community brings? Because nobody comes to any experience by themselves. They come with their whole family and their life and their culture. And now, we say, okay, what's the community of learners in the room and what can they learn from each other? And as students become different learners, as they get to be better at different kinds of learning, then they get to be better at employing that learning, at putting it into practice. Diversity is a vital part of CSUSB and we are proud to represent various backgrounds, thoughts and experiences. #WeDefineTheFuture We Define the Future CSUSB
