Bio
Dr. Zhang earned his Ph.D. in Physical/Material Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2002, followed by a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the same institution. From 2003 to 2005, he continued his postdoctoral research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 2005, he began his teaching career as an assistant professor at Southern Utah University before joining California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) in 2011.
Dr. Zhang specializes in characterizing highly porous polymeric materials, with applications in ferroelectric materials and hydrogen storage. He is a co-PI on two National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded programs, CREST I and CREST II, and has co-authored more than 10 publications with undergraduate students at CSUSB. Currently, he serves as the faculty advisor for the university’s Center for Advanced Functional Materials and mentors undergraduate research in polymer composites and hydrogen storage.
